Dr Cook is a nephrologist and general physician at Austin Health, Melbourne. She is the RACP representative on the VicRoads Coroner’s Fitness to Drive Action Group a medical advisory group to the Victorian Department of Transport regarding medical driving fitness. In the wake of a personal tragedy involving a medically unfit driver, she has become a road safety advocate.

This presentation will include a brief description of what constitutes fitness or unfitness to drive, evidence addressing risk in dialysis patients, the concept that the Australian Fit to Drive Guidelines are a national consensus document although states have separate licensing authorities, general discussion about our legal and ethical obligations when driving fitness is compromised and potential transport alternatives for dialysis patients.
